Hi! Welcome to “Stitch and Tell”! My primary motivation in creating this blog is to share everything that I have learned over the course of my crochet journey with beginners and intermediate crocheters alike. Crochet has been a very formative hobby for me ever since my first encounter with it when I was a child. I believe that it has shaped my worldview significantly, as the abbreviations for stitches used in written crochet patterns share a resemblance with programming languages which led to my major in college.
I’m a self-taught crocheter, as I used reference books and YouTube videos to learn the majority of the stitches that I use when I crochet today. Even though I had yet to learn about so many wonders of crochet, I eventually took a 10-year hiatus as soon as I gained the knowledge of some of the basic crochet stitches and had a few projects that I completed. Even though I had spent 10 years apart from a stash of yarn and my trusty crochet hooks, my enjoyment for this craft manifested itself in what I decided to major in in college: Computer Science. Although these two disciplines seem worlds apart, they are quite similar in many ways.
It was during my time in my Computer Science degree that I reconnected with my creative side through website/user interface design and began to crochet again.
I learned that there were so many new things out there in the world of crochet that I had yet to discover. I couldn’t believe that I had never learned how to crochet cables, or how I had never made a blanket. Those are the first few projects that I decided to crochet after my crochet hiatus, but then every time I came close to finishing one project, I discovered two new ones that I added to my list of items to make. This enthusiasm led me here: crochet hook and yarn in hand, with a blog to connect with others about crochet.
